Dog Pet Doors Dimensions

Getting the Right size door
  • Breed Selection - By simply choosing your pet's breed, the selector will choose the appropriate size of the door opening you need (Breed selection criteria is based on AKC standard measurements in height and weight for each breed). If your pets' dimensions are NOT within these AKC acceptable standards for your breed, or you have a non-AKC breed pet, or your simply not sure about your pet's height and width, we recommend that you measure the height and width of your pet as described below:
  • Width Measurement - Your pet's largest width dimension is usually from shoulder to shoulder. To measure your pet's width, in a standing position, place one of your pet's shoulder against the wall. Take a box or straight chair that is at least a few inches taller than your pet. Position the box against the opposite shoulder of your pet. Next measure the distance between the wall and the box edge. Add 1/2" to your overall width. Type in your measurement in the width window - Use decimal format only - i.e. 3 1/2" should be typed in as 3.5
  • Height Measurement - To measure your pet's height, posiition your pet in a standing position. With a tape measure, measure from the floor to heighest point on their back (usually the shoulders) excluding their head. Add 1" to your overall height. Type in your measurement in the height window - Use decimal format only - i.e. 3 1/2" should be typed in as 3.5
